Gravity falls Shippings Wiki

Dipcifica is the shipping of Pacifica Northwest and Mason "Dipper" Pines. It is one of the more popular pairings for the respective characters, competing with popular ships such as Wendip and Mabifica.

Origins and Appeal

Although Dipifica wasn't nonexistent pre-season 2, it didn't gain a large following until Pacifica-centric episodes The Golf War and Northwest Mansion Mystery. The episodes revealed that Pacifica is not genuinely a brat but just negatively influenced and sheltered by her parents. Towards the end of the episodes, she mellows more towards the Pines as well, bonding with one of them in each episode. The appeal of Dipcifica is that both Dipper and Pacifica can be their better selves with one another, with Dipper being confident in his abilities, and Pacifica being nicer.

The ship also has several things that makes it more convincing than any other non-canon ships with Dipper, unlike with Wendy where he used to always place her at a pedestal and acts very awkward around her, Dipper doesn't respect Pacifica's status, and as such he doesn't feel the need to act unnecessarily nice or cool to her and vice versa, and is more than comfortable in being honest with his opinions with her. The fact that they are the same age helps this.

Also given the fact that they both bring out the good of the other, Pacifica's insult to him help Dipper gain convidence which helps him solve mysteries and deal with monsters more confidently. Dipper's insult to both her and her family allowed her to finally see the many wrong doings of her whole family name and finally attempts and succeed to somewhat righten it for herself, and also changing for the better and not letting her parents mess with her life anymore.

It's also has some semi-canon evidence, from the "Don't Color This Book! It's Cursed!" coloring book, which features Mabel shipping the two, a comic titled "Gravity Falls: Lost Legends", all the way to the journal 3 special edition which shows Dipper crossing the words of how him questioning if there's "some vibe" going on with Pacifica, Mabel then teases him and writes that she is onto him.

Some fans speculate that Alex purposely gave the vibe that they somewhat like each other in NMM and other official comic and books, and even going as far as supporting the ship, not in a "You can interpret it any way you want." but in a "They are the most logical ship couple." In order to get the rest of the fandom to move on from Wendip after he officially shot it down, fighting fire with fire you can say. As he himself stated that Dipper's crush on Wendy was only for his development and making Dipper even just keeping a crush on Wendy is essentially taking two steps back from his development.

Some fan-fiction tend to focus on Dipper being afraid of upsetting Mabel by dating Pacifica, or Pacifica being afraid of dating Dipper out of fear of being embarrassed by the Pines' antics, as well as the reaction of her strict family.

This ship also entertains the 'nerdy geek and popular girl' romance trope, especially if set in a high school/aged-universe
